The Zao Fox Village, or Zao Kitsune Mura, is a beautiful nature reserve where over 100 foxes of six different species reside. It is a lively community in the wild, where foxes are free to move and play freely.

The park is located in Japan in the heart of Miyagi Prefecture and not far from the city of Shiroishi. It is a magnificent oasis in the mountains, the ideal habitat for the fox, an animal with a distrustful reputation. Open to the public since 1990, the Zao Fox Village is still the only village in the world entirely dedicated to foxes. The current cost of the entrance ticket is 1000 yen for adults (about € 7.50) while it is free for children.

Most of the foxes are in an open space and some of them can get quite close, but it is important to remember that it is absolutely forbidden to feed them. Their nutrition is well regulated and their diet is clearly described for visitors to see. However, even though it is possible to approach them, it is not to be forgotten that they are wild animals and it is therefore recommended that you always use the utmost caution.

The fox, according to Japanese mythology, has always been considered a creature with supernatural abilities, an animal with magical powers capable of changing appearance and assuming human semblance.
