Kawazu-Shizuoka-Giappone-1

Kawazu is a town situated in the eastern part of Japan, in prefecture of Shizuoka and not far from Tokyo. It is famous for its 8,000 cherry trees, a variety of unique plant which is able to blossom earlier than other specimens of cherry trees in the country.

These cherry trees are called Kawazu Zakura and were discovered in 1955. The first flowers begin to bloom in mid-February and blooming lasted for almost a month, unlike the Somei Yoshino which flowers in late March and resists for over a week.

The beautiful Kawazu-sakura, planted along the river that runs through the city, offer a delightful floral scenario, a delicate explosion of color and scent that announce the early arrival of Spring.
