Yuncheng Lake,Cina
Yuncheng, also known as Xiechi Lake, is a saltwater lake located in the northern province of Shanxi in China. It is truly a spectacle of nature mostly due to the phenomenon that occurs during the summer when the landscape transforms into what looks like a magnificent abstract painting bursting with color. The creation of this work of art is due to the presence of dunaliella salina, an alga that changes color under particular conditions of heat and high salinity, producing a high concentration of carotenoids.
The lake has been exploited for salt production for over 4,000 years. It covers an area of ??50 square miles and is considered the third largest sodium sulphate lake in the world. It dates back to 500 million years, and the discovery of the archaeological remains and presence of the various temples erected in the vicinity testify to more recent wars fought for its possession.
Lake Yuncheng is often called the "Dead Sea of ??China" due to its high level of salinity, but unlike most “dead seas” rich in chloride, these waters contain a quantity of sulphate capable of supporting an abundant diversity of flora and fauna.
The colors of the lake offer a surreal beauty with enclosed natural pools. The colors range from purple to magenta, scarlet red to cobalt blue, yellow and emerald green - a true rainbow of colors that has become one of the most popular tourist spots in the country.
