Balos Lagoon (or Balos Beach) is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece. Located in the north-western part of the island of Crete, it is characterized by a strip of white sand lapped by a splendid turquoise sea that joins the Corico Promontory to Capo Tigani.
It is known to many as one of the most spectacular landscapes in the Mediterranean - a strip of white sand with beautiful pink reflections, surrounded by calm and transparent water. This scenic and suggestive beach is characterized by a thousand shades and colors capable, leaving visitors breath taken.
The Lagoon is part of a protected natural area and is home to cormorants and sea hawks, some species of monk seal and some specimens of sea turtles. The beach can be reached by ferries leaving from the port of ?issamos or by car to the Capo Gramovusa parking lot, and then a brisk walk of about half a mile down a stony path.
