The natural swimming pool of Marina Serra, an authentic beauty of Salento

Enclosed by a rocky set of a splendid inlet of Marina Serra is a small town in the municipality of Tricase and one of the most beautiful natural pools hidden in the Mediterranean. Located along the Adriatic coast of Salento, the wonderful southern peninsula of Apulia is wonderfully surrounded by three seas. This enchanting portion of crystalline sea, trapped by a wall of rocks shaped by the action of wind and water and shaped like a crescent, is also a nature point where the sunlight hits the landscape giving it a different colored shade depending on the time of day.

The Marina Serra swimming pool, formerly called "Canale del Rio" and dominated by the 16th-century fortification of Torre Palane, is still linked to an obscure legend of the past. It is said that this cove was created by the vengeful fury of Satan himself, to punish a young prince who had not kept a covenant. The evocative setting of the place, the clarity and pleasant temperature of its waters combined with a shallow seabed, make it a perfect oasis for swimming and sunbathing. An ancient stone ladder from fishermen of the past. This is a pathway towards this natural swimming pool.

The natural swimming pool of Marina Serra, which has now become a very popular tourist destination, is located in the province of Lecce, just 9 miles from Santa Maria di Leuca. To reach it, just take the SS 16 highway to Lecce and then follow the road Via del mare to San Cataldo just along the southern coast. You can easily find parking for your car depending on the time of year. Keep in mind the "beach" has no sand and no shaded areas but it does have an area where you can purchase refreshments, snacks and rent umbrellas, which you can easily insert between the cracks in the rock created specifically for this purpose.
