Havasu Falls,Arizona
The Havasu Falls are beautifully cascading waterfalls with a depth of 30 meters into a natural pool of extraordinary turquoise shades. Located in the Havasu Canyon in Arizona nestled in the middle of the Indian Havasupai Reserve, lies this uncontaminated territory which still has been unctouched by mass tourism. Although they are known all around the world for their beauty, they are not easily reachable. The journey entails a long, hard hike.
The falls are controlled by the Havasupai tribe and are outside the jurisdiction of the Grand Canyon National Park. If you want to admire them, it is necessary to reach the Hualapai Hilltop landing point, and then face a 9 mile path. The reward is worth it! This fairytale waterfall which is surrounded by splendid reddish rocks, typical of the canyons of the American west, and continues to descend towards Colorado among large natural pools.
Havasupai translated from its native language means "people with emerald waters", where they would spend summers in the canyon to obtain food and wood reserves to take them through to the arrival of winter. The first English settlers and gold diggers who came to this place unleashed a series of wars to the point of decimating the population, and today the population is a mere 600 members.
The Havasu Falls can be visited in any season, but the best time to bathe in its waters is from March to May and from September to October. (Entry to the reserves must be booked well in advance)
