Located in Australia, right at the top of the Flinders Lane building, along a one of the most famous streets in Melbourne's financial district is the unusual Notel Melbourne, a quirky and original hotel designed with six luxurious vintage Airstream caravans and breathtaking views of the rooftops of the city's skyscrapers. If you are unfamiliar with these spectacular and super comfortable "caravans", they are luxury brand accomodation designed in chrome-plated aluminum. Airstream trailers have become icons of the American lifestyle and are considered precious jewels of every day comfort.
In order to build Notel's hotel rooms, each Airstream was completely emptied and re-designed by architect Edwards Moore in collaboration with the FMSA Architettura studio. Artist Ash Keating designed the interior of the caravans and is the artistic mind behind the decorative painted wall which serves as the background of the location.
Each caravan has a bedroom, a private bathroom with shower and a terrace which overlooks the common area of the hotel. All suites come with amenities such as iPad, Netflix subscription, virtual city guide, bar fridge containing snacks and drinks, including a complimentary local craft beer. The Airstream With Benefit Suite is the only one that is different from the rest with a privileged positioning that overlooks Flinders Lane. It has a open-air spa that is exclusive to the suite.
The Notel has no service staff, not even for check-in. Access into the rooms is activated with a pre-set code through your smartphone. In addition, the caravan tablet provided by the hotel offers a virtual guide to show guests the layout of the structure, recommendations for the best nearby places to eat, drink and have fun.
