Elephant Beach, The Beach Where Elephants Go To Swim

Named as best beach of 2004 by Time magazine, the Elephant Beach is Asia’s most beautiful and most unique beach located on Havelock Island. This island if one of the 576 in the Andalusian Archipelago right in the heart of the Gulf of Bengal between India, Burma and Thailand.



This beach has sand as soft as powder whose shoreline meats with a crystalline sea where elephants love to swim, showing off their excellent natural abilities. They are such good swimmers that the elephants swim out to 500 meters and even though they weigh tons, they look as playful and sweet as you could ever imagine. The eldest of the elephant clan was the famous Rajan who recently died at the ripe age of 66 years old. He had been swimming in these waters for almost 40 years!



The Elephant Beach is sheltered by a dense forest which protects the incredible turquoise sea which is home to one of the richest coral reefs on Havelock Island. It can be reached by boat or along a path that was once walked by elephants who carried logs and goods to the sea. Today, elephants remain the symbol of the island and always offer an exciting show on the Elephant Beach.
