Devil's Pool, A Natural Basin on the Edge of a Waterfall

The Devil's Pool is a small natural basin that overlooks the edge of Victoria Falls Waterfall, located just on the edge between Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is one of the most spectacular places in the world, created by the impetuous flow of the gigantic water mass of the Zambezi River.


This natural pool plunges directly into the void of 110 meters, where you can experience the thrill of bathing at the extreme edge of the waterfall without, of course, running the risk of falling into it. Protected only by a rock barrier, access is allowed only during dry season when the river flow is greatly reduced. Dry season runs between late August and December.

Expert local guides organize daily tours, formed by groups of no more than 16 people. You can swim in the Devil’s Pool with a safety rope that prevents you from being dragged away by the current, but gives you just enough space to look out over the edge and admire the majestic spectacle of the Victoria Falls from above. This is a thrilling experience, reserved only for the most daring of travelers.

Victoria Falls is considered one of the seven wonders of the world, and extends for almost 1.2 miles into a deep rocky gorge and at a height of almost 130 meters. The falls were discovered in 1855 by Scottish explorer David Livingstone, who named them after the then Queen of England, Queen Victoria. They immediately became one of the most visited destinations on the African continent, and are protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
