Dean’s Blue Hole, the underwater cathedral of the Bahamas

Dean's Blue Hole is located in Clarence Town Bay, near Long Island, one of the beautiful islands that make up the Bahamas archipelago, and represents one of the most extraordinary natural wonders of the planet. These deep underwater sinkholes form in limestone or other soluble rocks and are named for the deep dark blue of the waters.Dean's Blue Hole, with an estimated depth of about 202 meters, is considered one of the deepest marine sinkholes on Earth. A fascinating geological phenomenon that is not only a tourist attraction but also a landmark for diving and snorkeling enthusiasts.

Dean's Blue Hole, enclosed in a natural rock amphitheater and surrounded by an idyllic beach of the whitest sand, was formed during the last ice age when sea levels were very low. Rainwater slowly eroded the limestone, creating cavities that, over time, collapsed to form the sinkhole we see today. This geological history has left behind a spectacular habitat populated by various marine life, including tropical fish, corals, and sponges. A true paradise for adventurers and nature lovers, all eager to explore its mysterious depths and admire the extraordinary biodiversity it hosts.

Dean's Blue Hole is known worldwide among diving and freediving enthusiasts. Every year, this site hosts Vertical Blue, one of the most prestigious freediving competitions in the world, founded by the famous freediver William Trubridge.During this event, athletes from around the globe compete to set new depth records, pushing human limits in one of the most stunning natural environments.
Although Dean's Blue Hole is one of the deepest and most famous marine sinkholes, the deepest marine sinkhole remains the Dragon Hole, located in the South China Sea near the Paracel Islands.
