Minnehaha Falls,Minnesota
Minnehaha Falls is located in Minneapolis City Park, Minnesota which is one of the coldest states in the USA. The falls are 16 meters high and are part of the Minnehaha Creek, a tributary of the Mississippi River starting at Lake Minnetonka.
In the wintertime, the waterfalls freeze over completely and immediately become a popular destination for ice climbers who come equipped with axes to climb the huge ice columns. The ice walls are truly spectacular but the most extraordinary of attractions can actually be found inside.
Towards the end of winter, when the ice begins to melt, a small cave-like passage forms behind the falls, which reveals one of the most beautiful natural wonders - there is a light that is filtered through the frozen water which creates a play of lights of rare beauty. This enchanted world is admired by all visitors.
